Spanish Giants Barcelona on Wednesday night thumped Chelsea 3-0 at Camp Nou to qualify for the champions league quarterfinals. Barcelona played a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.


Lionel Messi gave the Catalan club an early lead when he put one through Thibaut Courtois legs after 2 minutes and six seconds. However, Chelsea’s woes were compounded 18 minutes later when forward Ousmane Dembele got Barcelona’s second goal after Messi nicked the ball off Cesc Fabregas. Barcelona doubled their advantage before halftime break 2-0.

Barcelona star was at the helm of affairs again in the 63 minutes to send the La Liga leaders into the quarterfinals. The game ended 4-1 aggregate in favor of the home team. Barcelona now joins Real Madrid, Juventus, Sevilla, Roma, Liverpool and Manchester City who have already booked their places.

However, Jupp Heynckes men, Bayern Munich moved into the UEFA champions league quarterfinals. The Bavarian club beat Besiktas 3-1 in Istanbul on Wednesday evening to complete an 8-1 victory against the Turkish side.

Lionel Messi Breaks Personal Record

Barcelona hitman Lionel Messi on Wednesday night scored the quickest goal of his career against Chelsea. The Argentine beat Thibaut Courtois after just 2 minutes and six seconds into the game.

The early goal stunned Chelsea and also put the home side in the driving seat at the Camp Nou.The goal was Messi’s 601st for Barcelona but it was a personal record for the 30-year-old as his quickest ever for club and country.

The goal means Messi beat his previous quickest effort which came against Racing Santander in 2009 when he scored after 156 seconds. The Argentine forward nicked off the ball from Cesc Fabregas to set up French striker Ousmane Dembele to double the advantage 18 minutes later.
