Manchester United have agreed to a deal that will see Alexis Sanchez move from Arsenal. However, the transfer is being delayed by Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s hesitation.
The Armenian international is taking his time to think over a move to the Emirates. Mkhitaryan is also happy to stand his ground if he feels the move is not right for him. Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, wants the Armenian midfielder to be part of the deal that sees Sanchez join Manchester United.
The Frenchman is also keen on his compatriot, Anthony Martial although Mourinho is not willing to sanction his departure. Manchester United have made it clear that they have no desire to include Anthony Martial in a swap deal for Sanchez.
Mkhitaryan joined United 18 months ago for a sum of 27 million and was left out of the team that beat Stoke. He is currently receiving 180,000 pounds a week and Arsenal will need to match the figure.
Sanchez Eligible To Play In UEFA Champions League
Alexis Sanchez will be eligible to play for Manchester United in the Champions League. This will be possible if he completes his move from Arsenal as widely expected.
Sanchez has agreed a deal with United and the only delay in finalizing the deal is Henrikh Mkhitaryan. With the transfer speculation, there have been questions on whether he will be able to play in the knockout stages of the champions league.
UEFA Champions league regulations allow clubs to register one player for the knockout rounds. The rule also states that if a player has played for a club in the same competition will not feature for another club who is still in the competition.
However, Alexis Sanchez passes in each case because he has only played in the Europa League. Arsenal did not qualify for the Champions League this season. Had United dropped to the Europa League zone Sanchez will not be eligible to play in the competition.
